Master of Mosquiton

Vol. #1

English Dubbed Version

Version: Video

Rated: <Unknown>

Length: Approx. 60 minutes

Note: I couldn't find anything that said specifically who did the voices for this movie. So, the actors in this review did the voiceovers for some version of this anime or another.

There are three volumes of this anime. Each volume has two episodes. All of them are connected.

The story goes something like this: Inaho Hitomebore (Yuka Imai) is a witch. Her mother (or grandmother) told her about a vampire in a secret place in the basement. She goes there and wakes it be dripping a drop of her blood on what looks like a bunch of ashes. Mosquiton (Takehito Koyasu) is the vampire, but he's only 1/4 vampire. He has two helpers named Hono (Yuuji Ueda), who can breathe fire, and Yuki (Michiko Neya), who can shoot ice. I'm really not sure what they are. But they go from what looks like kids to more mature figures when they want to use their abilities.

Inaho is obsessed with getting an "o-part" so she can be immortal and always look like a 17-year-old. She also seems to be in love with Mosquiton. She whines and wheedles Mosquiton to go to London where a pyramid has popped out of the ground to look for this o-part doohickey. How does she know it's there? Because her ear-rings glowed!!!

While there, they do battle with some kind of shape-shifting guy that might be a vampire. However, he can meld with a horse and turn into a centaur-like thing that has a mouth in the crotch area. He wants the o-part thing too, but for his master, not himself.

Mosquiton kicks Centaur butt after sucking Inaho's blood, which turns him into a crazed vampire, rather than his typical laconic self. Then he turns on Inaho and she is forced to kill him.

End of first episode.

The 2nd one has Inaho still in the pyramid reawakening Mosquiton. We learn a lot more about their relationship and how it all works through flashbacks in this one.

In one of these flashbacks, we learn that Inaho is supposed to be Mosquiton's master. However, the first episode practically implied that it was the other way around. Unfortunately, we still don't learn what Hono and Yuki are or why they work for Mosquiton.

We also get to do battle with a robotic sphinx and an Egyptian type lady that is very well endowed and not very clothed. She's not much of a challenge, but the battles are still quite funny. Mosquiton gets smacked pretty hard and has to be revived by Inaho's blood. Then Mosquiton quickly turns on Inaho again and she's saved by the mutant vampire. Who knows why.

End of the second episode.

The Good Stuff:

Excellent music!

Interesting plot

Plenty of funny stuff happens in this show

The "good" guys are all likable...although Inaho can get annoying

The Bad Stuff:

The vampire sucking business

Inaho injuring herself to bring Mosquiton to life

Various death scenes

That ugly centaur thing

Inaho and Mosquiton have some implied sexual type scenes. Think hanky panky or "necking" rather than anything really nasty.

Yes, there is swearing too!

Some sphincter jokes...

I thought this was some good stuff, but it had a lot of dark elements too. If you want a silly anime with some serious undertones, then this will do. If you like vampires, get this as it's got some interesting takes on this myth. But be warned, it's not for young ones or the squeamish.

STORY:

VIOLENCE: (Those fight scenes are gripping...but graphic.)

COMEDIC FACTOR:

SEXUAL CONTENT: (Watch out. Yuki "pops" out when she changes...and then there's the Egyptian girl.)

LANGUAGE: (There's a fair amount of swearing...)

ACTION:

OVERALL SCORE: (It would have gotten a four if it hadn't been so dark)
