I've heard that Project A-ko is supposed to be some sort of parody of other anime or TV shows. I really didn't see much parody in this flick. But I am not from Japan.
The story revolves around a girl named A-ko (Stacey Gregg) and her friend, C-ko (Julia Braams). A-ko is always sleeping in too late and then has to run very fast to get to school on time. The first scene of her has her getting up and trying to find clothes to get to school. There's some cheesecake here, but it's over quickly and you don't see much.
Anyway, they get to school and B-ko, a spoiled brat of a girl, falls in "love" with C-ko. B-ko (Denica Fairman) wants C-ko for a friend (or more). C-ko is a ditz and is constantly trying to feed A-ko really bad food.
So, B-ko sends some goons to trick C-ko into coming behind the school. The goons will attack her and B-ko will rescue C-ko and make C-ko her friend. A-ko hears B-ko's scream and rescues her first, though.
It should be noted here that A-ko is very strong and super fast. It should also be noted that C-ko is very annoying and will start bawling for the dumbest reasons.
Anyway, next we're treated to B-ko bathing and musing as to what to do to A-ko. The plot gets kind of boring for a while now as B-ko keeps stopping A-ko at the school's gates and tries to attack her with various mechs. Think All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku. It's a dumb sequence. Of course, there's a sub-plot with this alien spy named 'D' (Marc Smith I) who thinks that C-ko is a long lost princess and thus, reports back to his master who drives a huge ship.
Eventually, these aliens (although they look human) grab C-ko. Because of this turn of events, A-ko and B-ko must team up to save C-ko. Confusing, no?
Some fairly interesting fight sequences abound in the show, but overall, it's rather dull and repetitious.

While I don't think this show lived up to its hype, you might enjoy it. It wasn't bad, mind you, but I thought it would be a lot more interesting than it turned out to be.

Yes, there was a sequel to Project A-ko. Actually, there's been several. This one kind of continues where the last one left off. C-ko's people's ship is now a kind of amusement park / hotel and the "aliens" want to go home. I don't understand why so many of the women from C-ko's planet look like men, but they do and I must say, it is very messed up!
So, C-ko's people want to go home. They ask her to come to their ship for a free stay in their hotel and what-not. C-ko likes that idea, so she and A-ko go there. Meanwhile, B-ko is making another mecha to kill A-ko with so she can have C-ko all to herself. Too bad for B-ko though, since her dad catches her drawing it up and takes it from her.
Then he goes and has it built to help him capture C-ko's ship. He wants it for its alien technology. The FBI, CIA, and other intelligence agencies are inside the ship, spying on C-ko and the aliens...and when they identify themselves, they all end up fighting each other. While all this is going on, B-ko is fixing up the alien's engines so it can fly again.
Well, B-ko's dad decides to attack right at the moment all those agents are fighting and so he sends a bunch of mecha in. A-ko whups up on them, so B-ko's dad gets into a piece of mecha and has some of his men get in other parts and then they all join to form a HUGE mecha. Why? To get the ship, copy all the Transformers shows, and beat A-ko, of course!
Finally, A-ko teams up with B-ko to kick B-ko's dad's tail. Obviously I have glossed over some of the stuff that happens, but I am not going to talk about all 70 minutes of this feature.

Don't watch the trailers for the original that are at the end of this tape. They seem to focus on the original nude scenes. |
I liked this OAV better then the first one. It's funny and not nearly as disturbing. I give it a thumbs up!
