Synopsis:
Nakahito, a boy mystic, awakens a robot with an "Angel Heart Mark II" by accidentally kissing her. Soon thereafter, his life is quite messed up, what with all these girls coming to kill Kurumi or kidnap him. This disc continues the series.
The Review:
The Angels finally break into the Academy to free Nakahito in the 19th mini-episode. What will happen? More angst, of course. This is an emotional show, although it's not even close to the emotion and the feelings that are explored in Saber Marionette J. However, that's not here nor there. I mention it only so that if you are looking for that type of show, you might find it.
Anyway, they break in along with Dr. Amagi and are quickly separated. Kurumi breaks out and fights a transformed Mikhail, that weird kid from the last volume that kidnapped Nakahito. It seems he was a she. Not only that, but Mikhail's a Steel Angel with a Mark II. Talk about weird. Meanwhile, Saki and Karinka find Nakahito and free him in time to watch Kurumi do battle with Mikhail.
Mikhail can seriously kick butt as she has a ton of battle data on how Kurumi fights. Also I think the writers wanted to kick Kurumi around even though she should have easily whipped this weirdo, Mikhail. Oh well. That episode ends and the 20th begins.
In this one it's mostly Kurumi and Mikhail trying to kill each other with more and greater pyrotechnics. In the meantime, the doctors are having a powwow with the Academy jerks and we learn more about Angel Hearts and what not. Basically, Dr. Ayanokoji says he "doesn't know what'll happen if two angels are pitted against each other." Hello!? They did that a LOOONG time ago. And it wasn't exactly a good thing. I guess the longer they fight, the worse off they get. Oddly, it doesn't seem to affect any of the other Angels.
But anyway, back to the story. Somehow they manage to drag the fight into episode 21 where one of them gets their butt whomped. Maybe I'm not remembering episode 20 very well, but I'm pretty sure I have the sequence of events in order.
Kurumi becomes a demon and grows black wings. Then it's on to episode 22 where she blows up the Academy and tries to kill Nakahito too. They decide that the only thing left to do is annihilate Kurumi. It seems when she does her super-blast she has to rest, so they plan to use all of the Academy's power to destroy her while Kurumi recharges.
In episode 23 they plan on doing that, but she blows up another portion of their base and they need to buy time to fix stuff. Thus Nakahito's bro comes along and uses his "power" to slow Kurumi's power down, so to speak, thus giving them more time. What I don't get is how his brother got there. No one knew where they were!
Somewhere in here, the other angels all decide to help the Academy destroy Kurumi by donating their energy. Kurumi's blasts had damaged the Academy's base too much for them to have enough power to do by themselves.
Episode 24 is the Final Episode. It has a good ending for the show, so I think it's best if I don't tell you about it.
I watched this disc entirely in Japanese. Eventually I'll see some or all of it in English too, but I really don't care for the dub much. Most of the time, the sub was easy to follow and the text easy to read.
The Good Stuff:
![]() | The story got wrapped up well |
![]() | Animation and soundtrack continue to be of high quality |
The Bad Stuff:
![]() | More swearing, but not as much as in some of the other volumes. At least, not in the sub. |
![]() | There's some nudity in the last episode, and there's always revealing outfits |
![]() | The violence is rather extreme and there is at least one bloody scene |
I liked this show from beginning to end. There were times that I didn't like some of the things they stuck in the show, and if you read my other reviews, you'll know what I'm talking about. The show is too short and it leaves you begging for more. However, the presentation was well-done and it does do a good job of wrapping up, so I give it a thumbs up.
