We begin this tale with a rather confusing scene of battleships. It seems we're back at World War II. A weird looking ship/sub of the Japanese is zipping along in some body of water when its crew learns that Japan has been hit with an atomic bomb. One of the sailors runs out of the room because he just lost all his loved ones.
Next thing we know, they meet up with an American ship of the same design as there's. The stupid guy that ran out goes against orders and starts firing upon it. Thus, there is a volley of shots between both ships. Also, both ships have a chick on them that's wearing weird clothes. The chick on the Japanese chick is screaming for the other to stop and the one on the American ship just kind of smiles gloatingly. Suddenly, they both collapse and go to sleep.
The Japanese captain tells one of his officers to leave the ship and care for the lady while he goes down with the ship, or something. And that is that. Now it's 60 or more years in the future and the officer is old. There are news reports of weird happenings in the North and South poles. People that were conducting studies in these remote regions have been killed mysteriously (ala King Kong Vs. Godzilla and The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms...ooh, scary!). We get to see what happens to one of them and it is NOT a pretty sight.
Thusly, the U.N. goes to investigate and their ships get destroyed. Our hero survives after seeing a mysterious girl shouting at the stuff that had destroyed their ship. Yes, it's that weird firl from earlier. Too bad it looks like she died this time, when their ship was but in half by a floating metal donut. (AKA a "gravity ring.")
Anyway, our hero is rescued by someone, we don't see who, and taken to a hidden weapons depot. He finds a mysterious captain and crew with a lot of old ships that are being taken apart and rebuilt into a bigger, badder ship, including our hero's father's ship. Our hero thought he had died and hopes that these people can tell him where his pa is.
In the end, he finds his dad and their ship repels one of the giant monoliths that can fly about. Yeah, that's weird too...don't ask. They emit microwaves and fry people...sometimes...not sure why they didn't do that to get rid of the people on this mystery ship...anyway...
Somewhere in here we find out that the mystery girls are from some civilization that lives in the middle of the earth and for some reason they all want the people on the surface dead, except for the one girl.

This was an okay flick. I didn't really care for it, but I admit that I enjoy stuff with more action (especially comedic anime). I recommend it to those that like serious anime, though.
